Review of the Ambiente 2023 trade fair

Time for inspiration

The consumer goods trade fair offers next125 exciting insights into needs, desires and future trends.

Messebesuch

How do design, architecture and culture react to current economic and societal challenges? And how does this influence living and working environments? Fast-moving times have a particularly strong effect on trends and tendencies. Consumer goods trade fairs afford us an important insight into consumer needs and desires. By being aware of these influences and interpreting them for ourselves, we’re able to offer our commercial partners a broad, future-oriented portfolio that constantly corresponds with the needs of our customers.

New manufacturing processes and multifunctional furniture

If craftsmanship and digital innovation are becoming more closely intertwined, the lines between the real world and the virtual world will become even more blurred. New manufacturing techniques and materials are being combined in unconventional ways to achieve artistic results. This can make for abstract shapes and unconventional surfaces outside our imagination. An example of this is the Migration of Matter Ceramics Studio in Berlin, which creates extraordinary ceramics with 3D printers. Even the way objects are usually used is put into question and re-interpreted. For example, this is how Insa Decker created “Babereti”, which is a piece of multifunctional furniture that can be a bench, bed, shelf or table depending on the situation. It’s also easy to transport. Thanks to its versatility, this piece of furniture is a flexible, lifelong companion (insadecker.de).

New materials

Taking a conscientious approach to nature and her resources is invariably one of the most important aims of countless companies. New solutions for producing sustainable materials are always being discovered through the symbiosis of technology, craftsmanship and art.

Krill Design uses products considered to be waste, such as orange peel, coffee grounds and egg shells, and converts them into biodegradable design objects through 3D printing techniques – (Krill Design, Milan, Italy; www.krilldesign.net)

New, sustainable materials attest to the awareness surrounding nature and her resources.

Colour trends 2023+

Colour trends reflect societal and economic movements. In the trend section of the Ambiente trade fair, Stilbüro bora.herke.palmisano peaked into the future and imagined the colours that, in their opinion, would become relevant in the coming months and years. They came out with three colour concepts:

color trends

A reserved, natural colour palette “calming nature – careful + pleasant” – These colours are based on their counterparts in nature and are characterised by gentle pigmentation as they are intended to convey a calming sensation and come across as gentle and natural. The nuances range from stone-like hues to moss and clay and shades of rose.

Messebesuch

A joyful, intense colour palette “unknown beauty – strange + gracious” – These surprising and inspiring colours are contrasted against gracious nuances. This is an extravagant and emotional world of colour which stands out and spreads joy and energy. Additionally, unconventional finishes are used, such as glimmer or satin, which give off a wet look or an iridescent rainbow effect.

color trends

A powerful, visual colour palette “lasting ideas – passionate + evocative” – This expressive, monolithic colour selection is used for self-aware design statements. The nuances are reminiscent of the colour palette of classic designs with their striking geometry, clearly defined shapes and statement colours.
